Beautiful view!

We decided to visit the beautiful village of Ravello which is above Amalfi. We were greeted by this beautiful view.

We are coming back here for dinner later in the week to watch the sun go down.

We had a yummy lemon cheese cake gelatos in a gorgeous village square next to the cathedral.

Ravello is where D H Lawrence wrote Lady Chatterley, was frequented by Sofia Loren and Wagner amongst  others.

If you wish to visit somewhere...This is certainly one you should put at the top of your list.....stunning!!

Up on the mountains

Walked today down to Amalfi 746 steps (no we weren't  counting they were numbered in intervals of 100). Loads of lizards (with green backs) sunning themselves en route.

Spent the day by the harbour looking at the expensive yachts and mooching around the shops and tavernas interspersed with cappuccinos and gelatos!

Treated ourselves to some prosecco and limoncello for a little treatette  layer on the balcony  and melon, bananas and peaches for breakfast.

Our apartment looks over at Villa Rufolo  which used to be frequented by Wagner,  Jackie Kennedy  and D H Lawrence...who says we don't do culture!!

Waking up in Amalfi

Well what a view we have from our balcony. Today we are going to walk down into Amalfi town along the goat track that goes by our apartment. Had a gorgeous meal of grilled vegetables in olive oil for starters last night..followed by clams and mussels with homemade pasta...Italians certainly know how to cook!!!

Amalfi bound!

On the train to Naples and our onward connection to Sorrento. We decided to take in how the commoners live and go cattle class...how uncivilised!! Joking apart it is a very relaxing way to travel even with the unwanted help from our 'volunteer baggage handlers' for a tip for their services on Rome! GO AWAY!!

Perfect end to the first part of our adventure in Rome

We finished our last evening with a perfect meal and glass of prosecco in a little back street taverna. Beautiful salad with olives nuts tomatoes and cheese, followed by a beautiful Tiramasu!

We then strolled back with the sun setting  through the back streets of Rome past little  bars and restaurants, piazzas and fountains with flickering street lights coming on as we arrived back at our hotel after a 12 hour day seeing the beautiful Vatican City.

Avalon tasks - task 3 - Find a restaurant called 'Luigis'

Curiously not many of them...too stereotypical maybe? Didn't eat here as it was right in the main road...but task achieved Avalon!

Taking in a bit of culture...

After sitting for a while on the sunshine in St Peters Square and watched people and took in the absolutely  amazing architecture  (couldn't see the papal chimney which was disappointing!)

Then went on a tour around the Vatican Museum. Wow...20 euros each but what value...and the Sistene Chapel is VERY impressive  (everyone kept being told to sssh and not take pics but rebellious me got one...HA!!)

The age of some of the statues is incredible. .The one of the man two boys and snakes is dated 40-30bc...makes you feel old!!

Fuelling up for our appointment with his Eminence!

Calorie free ice cream..who would have thought!! 😉 Still perfect to assuage  the guilty feelings when we bump into the Pope wandering the grounds!!

Bit of a shame that "Le Train Bleu" the famous Art Nouveau restaurant on the concourse is closed for renovation!!

Still there's  always a handy Costa to be found when trying to pass the time...maybe not as posh or elegant but does the trick!!

Waiting to board......
